Amenities

Kaka Point has a shop right next to the beach which carries basic essential groceries and cold drinks. There is also a fully equipped takeaway serving a variety of hamburgers, fish and chips etc as part of the shop. There is also a restaurant and bar attached to the shop... so everything is right there in one spot with plenty of accommodation within walking distance. There is a children's playground near the shop and public toilets and changing area just down the road next to the Surf Club.

Beaches

Kaka Point is all about beaches. Everywhere you go from the start of Kaka Point onwards there is a new beach to explore. The greatly under rated and under utilised Port Molyneux beach is probably the best deepwater surfcasting beach on the entire Catlins coast. Many of the other beaches are shallow gently sloping sand beaches that are usually safe for children.

Fishing

Kaka Point is one of those places where you can catch fish if you know where to go. The easiest place to catch fish is surfcasting off Port Molyneux beach. You need strong tackle though. Sharks and barracuda patrol the deepwater surf break and there are dangerous rip tides. More casual fishing can be found in deep water channels among some of the reef systems exposed at low tide..

Wildlife

The entire Catlins Coast from the Clutha River Mouth onwards is becoming legendary around the world for its wildlife. Again it helps if you know where to go. Sea Lions regularly sun bathe on the beach right outside the Surf Club at Kaka Point in the summer and Autumn months and sometimes cross the road and even enter private properties. The bird life is amazing too. All the wildlife photos on this website were taken within driving distance of Kaka Point or at Kaka Point.
